Suman, who is celebrating his 48th birthday, today is virtually known to everybody in South India.
As an actor, Suman, who acted in over 250 films in all the South Indian Languages combined, has a special place both as a hero and as an actor in Telugu Film Industry. As far as his film career, it is full of activity. He is seen playing the roles of hero, character artist and above all the roles in mythological films with equal aplomb. Presently, he is acting in the film ÂSri Satyanarayana SwamiÂ, in which he will be appearing in a variety of get-ups including Vishnu, Brahma and Shiva, besides playing the title role. Similarly, he is playing crucial roles in the films of ChiranjeeviÂs ÂStalinÂ, and RajinikanthÂs ÂShivajiÂ, respectively.
When his career was taking a backseat as a hero, he made a silent transition from playing the roles of hero to character artist with utmost ease, which largely went unnoticed. First real break came to him with the film ÂAnnamayaÂ, in which he played the role of Lord Venkateshwara Swami and slipped into the skin of the character with great calm and composure. The role got him the required name and fame. After that, there was no looking back, whenever a film has to be made on the mythological lines the first name that pops-up to don the title role will be that of Suman. He continued in the same vein, never missing an opportunity to act in mythological films like ÂSri RamadasuÂ, Jai BalajiÂ, and the latest being ÂSri Satyanarayana SwamiÂ.
At the same time, he has not completely ignored or overlooked the commercial films. He is appearing in films, in which he has roles of equal importance. At an age where his counterparts are carrying on as heroes, he is seen playing roles of father to young and prominent heroes and heroines.
Presently, Suman who is appearing in films of Chiranjeevi and Rajinikanth is immensely content with the way his film career has shaped up so far. He always wanted to act with Chiranjeevi; he was delighted, when the chance to act with him came in the form of the film ÂStalinÂ, he gave the go-ahead. He will be playing a positive role of a Doctor in the film.
Similarly, he will be sharing the screen presence with Rajinikanth after a long gap of twenty years in the Tamil film ÂShivajiÂ. In the initial years of his spell in Tamil films Suman acted alongside Rajinikanth in films like ÂTheeÂ, and others. It is an experience, which he would not like to forget in hurry. He is playing the role of a realistic villain in the film. Director Shanker has given new meaning to the word villain in the film with his imaginative approach.
The dialogues uttered by him in the film will be of the highest order. This year it is a dream come true for Suman to appear alongside number one heroes in Tamil and Telugu Film Industry. Suman, who is busy this year with film commitments, has revealed that he has plans of taking up direction next year.
